Jason is doing well at school. Socially he is doing well - he has a few friends and enjoys playing with them during break time. Emotionally he has adapted well to the school and he is becoming more part of the daily activities in the classroom as well as with activities after school.
Mark Chipps of Goosebump Productions was contacted by Full Circle Magazine to produce a viral video to promote the Empowerment through Education (E-T-E) initiative. Mark was so encouraged by the amazing people he met after visiting the two township schools that he agreed to produce the video.
The Empowerment Through Education (E-T-E) Fund was launched on 22 May 2009 at the Fish Hoek Galley Restaurant on Fish Hoek beach. The E-T-E Fund was created to fund the education of 5 pupils from Green Curtains of Ocean View and Masakhane of Masiphumulele, both located in the Fish Hoek/Noordhoek Valley in the Cape Town South Peninsula.
Things are going very well at both Masakhane Educare and Green Curtains. Teachers have planned exciting curricula, children are learning in a safe and loving environment and parents are satisfied and have built a good relationship with the staff at both centres.
Volunteers supplement the work done by core staff members at each of our schools. They bring new insights and new stories into the classroom and provide a very important dimension to the childrens' education. Through this volunteer programme, our children have come in contact with individuals from all over the world in the past few years.
The Masakhane Educare has 2 registered Grade R classes, funded by the Western Cape Department of Education. We have 40 Grade R children who will go to school next year.
